Indigenous Association Strategy
Our strategy is to establish a safe and inclusive space worthy of our diverse Indigenous community by collaborating and building capacity through education, awareness, advocacy and respect. Sustaining our indigenous programs for future generations.
We have been a vital part of our community for a number of years. We were founded to serve a growing segment of our community in need of a safe place to connect with each other and participate in cultural activities and events. We have continued to grow with the help of our donors and volunteers that make our mission possible. Through all these years our purpose still remains the same: help create a connected, united, and strong community.
Indigenous Association History
The idea of creating an organization dedicated to meeting the needs of our Indigenous community began through the advocacy and efforts of many individuals, over many years, who worked tirelessly to highlight and create opportunities for the Indigenous community in the Fargo/Moorhead region. In 2019, the City of Fargo, through the Fargo Native American Commission, hired Chalsey Snyder (MHA Nation) as a consultant to begin the work of creating the infrastructure and recruiting the founding members of the Board that would eventually become the Indigenous Association.
The Indigenous Association was chartered, and became a 501(c)(3) in 2020 with the founding board members Audra Stonefish (Oneida Nation), Tracey Wilkie (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa), Brandon Baity (White Earth Nation), Whitney Fear (Oglala Sioux Tribe), Jorden Donner (White Earth Nation), Ryan Eagle (MHA Nation), and Senator Tim Mathern.
